Abstract

Results of application of the convex programming method in the "Selektor" software for solution of problems of the metamorphic rocks petrology are examined in the paper. It is specified that the method is helpful in solving the petrological tasks which are insoluble when using the conventional method of stoichiometric formalism. The uniqueness of the method is especially apparent in modeling of the fluid (gas or electrolyte) – rock interaction. Three metamorphic petrology problems are reviewed: estimation of redox state of the magnetite-absent mineral assemblages; analysis of the fluid components "inertness" or "absolute mobility" during metamorphism; and investigation of the particular mineral paragenesis evolution under different PT-conditions and fluid regimes. It is established that the magnetite-absent mineral assemblages are characterized by elevated reduction (CCO buffer or lower). It is shown that the prevailing in the petrological papers idea of the "absolute mobile" behavior of the carbon dioxide is not necessarily the case for the calc-silicate rocks where CO2 is rather "inert". Modeling of the natural mineral assemblage was used to examine the evolution of mineral paragenesis in metabasites rock depending on different PT-conditions and fluid regimes. The upper stability level of plagioclase in this rock has been estimated as 11-12 kbar at the temperature about 800–900oC. This estimate is probably corresponds to the highest possible pressure of the granulite facies metamorphism of the Aldan shield.
