Paleoseismic seismotectonic study of the node in the south-west of Tuva

Abstract

The results of palaeoseismological research in the field of mechanical joints of the Western Tannu-Ola and Western Sayan to the Altai mountain country are considered. This highly active seismic region has remained virtually unexplored until recently. The brightest seismotectonic disturbances about 60 km in length were found in the area Shapshalskogo fault. Age of the last Paleoearthquakes is roughly 1000–1500 BC; M= 7, 2 – 7 3. At the end of the largest Kobdinskogo shift identified young short break about 3 km long. In south-western Tuva observed structure to compensate for horizontal movements Kobdinskomu shift in the vertical, which may indicate the spread of strains concentrated in the north-western direction, towards Chulyshman plateau.
