Abstract

The summer of 2010 in Russia was characterized by the unbelievable heat and drought, causing natural fires (forest, steppe and peat fires), leading to significant economic losses and casualties. The article provides the analysis of these catastrophic events, based on the results of satellite monitoring of fires, carried out on a regular basis by the State Institution "Scientific Center of Aerospace Monitoring" ("Aerocosmos") of the Science and Education Ministry of Russia and the Russian Academy of Sciences.
